FROM PLANNING TO BLOWING – SUPPORT OF THE FTTH EXPANSION IN BAD KREUZNACH

Thanks to the commitment and initiative of the Kreuznacher Stadtwerke, the districts in Bad Kreuznach - including Planig and Bosenheim - can look forward to fast internet access with around 1000 new high-speed optical fibre connections. Emtelle (infrastructure solutions) and cable manufacturing partner Emcab joined hands with GEO DATA (Network design consulting company) to offer Kreuznacher Stadtwerke an expertly planned network design with unique and innovative product solutions. GEO DATA, an established consultant company, supports Bad Kreuznach and many other districts in Germany to design and implement their FTTH network. Lukas Schmidt (Emtelle), Business Development Manager for Southern Germany and Stefanie Sill (Emtelle), Head of Product Marketing Central Europe, introduced Emtelle GEO DATA’s consultant office in Westhausen in 2020. It was clear that the Kreuznacher Stadtwerke network required unique and innovative product solutions to provide sufficient backbone capacity.

Together with GEO DATA, Emtelle developed a 12-way 16/12 microduct to overcome the capacity constraints of the backbone network. Using 3-way and 6-way 16/12mm microduct, an extensive backbone was established to supply capacity to the street cabinets. These street cabinets would ultimately provide high-speed optical connections to the customer via another microduct network based on 10/6mm microduct infrastructure.

Altogether, 3600m of 12-way 16/12mm, 6000m 3-way & 6-way 16/12mm, 35000m 12-way 10/6mm, and 15000m 2-way 10/6mm microduct product was used to establish the network. Emtelle supplied more than 150km of Optical fibre cable and installed using specialised blowing techniques. This task was made easy by Emtelle's innovative approach to fully qualify the microduct and fibre optical cables, ensuring compatibility and installation performance. The "Blown MT12 PE 48 (4x12) cable (8.4mm)" cable performed exceptionally well and could be easily installed by blowing in more than 1000m of the backbone network. This gave Kreuznacher Stadtwerke confidence in Emtelle and its product solutions. Throughout the whole process: planning, design, development, civil installation, and cable blowing, Lukas Schmidt supported the teams on the ground with expert advice. Emtelle's commitment to providing end to end solutions and field support during installation ensures all installations can be confident in achieving excellence in their rollouts. Even when challenged with the relatively large size of the 12-way 16/10mm microduct, installers were surprised with the straightness of the microduct. The large microduct could easily be placed into the trench, making compacting and backfilling easier. We are proud to be a part of this project supporting GEO DATA and Kreuznacher Stadtwerke from A to Z, from planning to implementation, from duct to cable and up to 1000 new satisfied end customers.
